Damien Hirst, probably the UK’s most famous contemporary artist, is building new studios which are to include an art store second to none in Europe, or possibly the world. The art store will be used not only to store many of Damien’s valuable works of art, but as a repository to accommodate the artworks of many other contemporary artists.
The last decade has seen two or three serious fires which destroyed millions of pounds worth of art and this was not thought to be an acceptable risk for the most modern studio in Europe. As a consequence when Damien appointed Designscape to produce his new studio in the West of England, which is massive, International Fire Consultants Ltd were commissioned to produce a fire engineered design strategy, the keystone of which was the impenetrable art store
