International Fire Consultants Ltd's
Principles Again Adopted by ISO

There has been no quantifiable way of making an Extended Application of the results of penetration sealing tests. The process has been primarily judgemental and in IFC's experience of looking at the Assessments and Field of Applications undertaken in this area, the judgement is frequently quite illogical. At the request of the Intumescent Fire Seals Association (IFSA), IFC spent a substantial amount of time during this summer period modifying the 3D Interpolation Method, developed by Hans van de Weijgert for evaluating intumescent coatings, to suit the purpose of extrapolating of the results of penetration seal tests. Hans and Peter Jackman were able to write up a new procedure and incorporate it in the new ISO standard configurations method, ISO-PDTR 10295-3 which was accepted at the recent ISO TC92/SC2 Working Group meetings in Borås, Sweden. This is a major enhancement as it removes much of the current subjectivity from Assessments and for the first time put data analysis in its place.
